ABOUT A1 ANGLERS

A1 Anglers is excited to kick off our 9th season! Formerly established as Wren Bass Team in 2017, A1 Anglers is part of the Palmetto Boat Center High School Tournament Trail. This volunteer-based club sport offers local youth the opportunity to be involved in one of the fastest growing sports in America. In addition to awareness of the sport, our team provides a place for students “to fit in” outside of traditional sports like soccer, basketball, football, baseball, etc, and helps students earn scholarship funds toward a college education.

At the end of the 2024-2025 season, the fishing team experienced significant growth, including many outstanding students throughout Anderson County School District One (ASD1). To foster a sense of unity among the schools, we re-named to the A1 Anglers, to reflect the inclusion of both Wren, Powdersville Middle and High School Anglers.

For the 2024-2025 season, our team supported 24 middle schoolers and 22 high schoolers from Powdersville Middle School, Powdersville High School, Wren Middle School and Wren High School. We are proud to say that many of our past high school graduates have been offered prestigious awards and scholarships (some valued over $80K+ in fishing scholarships) to attend college.

MEET THE COACHES

MARK & SHERRY STONE

If you haven’t had an opportunity…. meet Mark and Sherry, coaches (aka passionately devoted volunteers) for the A1 Anglers (formerly Wren Bass Team) since 2017. Mark and Sherry started their coaching journey when their daughter Reagan transferred to Wren High School from a previous school with a bass team. To keep Reagan fishing, they joined other fishing enthusiast parents in the Wren Community to form the Wren Bass Team. Since then, it’s been their passion both on and off the water: “We love to see the kids enjoy something that they love: Catching their first fish, having a parent see them weigh in a good bag, and the excitement they show for being part of a team. Of course, we hate to see them leave but to hear they are going to college and continue fishing is a great feeling as well.”

  • When asked, what's your favorite lake to fish? “Clark’s Hill seems to be a favorite. We like camping and fishing there.”
  • What's the largest bass you have caught? "Coach Sherry’s big fish is 10 pounds 2 ounces caught from a pond in Greenwood on a Senko. Coach Mark’s is 7 pounds 4 ounces caught on Lake Secession on a white chatter bait."
